The SCLA will post reminders on NextDoor, Facebook, and our website Sunsetcanyon.org.

We will place signs at all entrances to the neighborhood. Participants can promote the sale on other forums (church, Moms’ Groups, etc.), add garage sale signs from main street to their home, and/or tie balloons to their mailbox.

Useful Ideas

Children can have their own area to sell outgrown toys
Don’t have much to sell? Check with neighbors to see if they are interested in combining. In this case, bigger is better
You can ask more for items that are clean and in good shape
It is easier to sell items with prices marked
Clothes on hangers sell better.
Jewelry is easier to manage if attached to index cards
Include manuals with appliances and electronics
Collect bags, boxes, and tissue paper to wrap fragile items
Set out a bin marked “Free” for extra items

Before the Sale
Buy pricing stickers, balloons for the mailbox, supplies to make signs
Clear yard of tripping hazards
Have extra chairs for those waiting on a shopper

Sale Day
Place biggest and best items at the curb
Place full‐length mirror near clothes
Place bin marked “Hangers” near clothes
Place smaller and/or high‐value items where they are always visible to you
Set out an extension cord for checking appliances.
Set up check‐out area with notepad, pens, calculator, measuring tape (to check on size of large items).
If you use a cash box, then someone always must be there.
ONLY accept cash, Venmo, or similar payment. NO checks.

Christian Brothers Automotive has made the Sunset Canyon Landowners Association aware of their intent to move forward with developing Lot 1032 of Sunset Canyon Section 5 (Vacant Lot at NE corner of HWY 290/Canyonwood Drive) as a 10-bay full service automotive service center. The proposed development will be taking access directly off of Canyonwood Drive just north of the intersection. The City of Dripping Springs has approved the site development permit and Hays County has approved the driveway permit. The approved plans and traffic memo can be found using the links below.

The Section V plat has recorded restrictions that include Lot 1032. Christian Brother’s legal counsel has provided a letter in response to the recorded plat restrictions. This letter can be found using the link below.

Published on Leave a comment on Disposal of Brush From Recent Ice Storm (2023)

DISPOSAL OF BRUSH FROM RECENT ICE STORM 

Waste Connections currently has all of their available assets tied up with cities to assist in their brush removal.  All of the cities that they are doing additional brush cleanup for is being done at an agreed upon additional cost.

At this time, SCLA customers should not expect or anticipate that the Waste Connections crews will pick up brush from this storm.  Our next scheduled bulk trash pickup day is May 13, 2023 and is limited to 4 cubic feet of brush.

Please keep in mind that the SCLA contract with Waste Connections was to get a single, lower price and to obtain a bulk trash pickup day for the residents of Sunset Canyon who choose to use them as their trash company.   

We also spoke to the county and Hays County resources are still working to clear brush from all roads and right-of-ways.  Walt Smith, our County Commission, did publish a list of resources available to assist property owners. FULL LEAFLET HERE. Excerpt below:

At this time, owners should be looking to companies to help clean up the damage, their family/friends, or even neighbors.  If you decide to burn on your property, please be extremely cautious given the amount of dry brush that is on the ground. As a reminder, please keep in mind that we do have Oak Wilt in the neighborhood and ensure that all equipment and cuts are property cleaned and cured.

“Be sure to immediately paint any new wounds on oak trees that are created during cleanup using wound dressing or latex paint. Immediately means make one cut then paint it before making the next cut. Clean all pruning tools with a 10% bleach solution or Lysol™ before pruning a different tree. Additional cosmetic pruning of oaks should be delayed until summer, once the threat of oak wilt spread has diminished. Avoid pruning oaks February through June! Any trees that are not oaks can be pruned at any time and painting the wounds is not necessary.”

Be aware that between August and October, there will be road work on the southernmost portion of Trautwein Road closing access to 290 with a detour setup through Sunset Canyon. TxDOT estimates only about 6 total days of closure on 3 different times for only 2 days at a time.
